This article from KrebsonSecurity explores a recent Infoblox study stating ““In large scale experiments, we found that over 90% of the time, visitors to a parked domain would be directed to illegal content, scams, scareware and anti-virus software subscriptions, or malware, as the ‘click’ was sold from the parking company to advertisers, who often resold that traffic to yet another party,”
This reinforces a strategy we’ve recommended to our Credit Unions for a long time, that you should try to register any of the available top-level-domain extensions (TLDs) .com / .net / .org for your domain name, and if it’s commonly misspelled or has easy lookalikes, you should consider registering those too. This could mean the difference between your member’s typo quickly redirecting them to your primary website instead of being inundated by scams and malware!
