Why to Avoid Fluid Layouts

Zack Curl wrote an article called Why Not To Create Fluid Layouts that does a great job of summarizing the problems with fluid layouts for modern web design. The bottom line is that fluid layouts are a Utopian ideal, but are somewhat impractical and problematic to implement. We’ll be sticking to fixed width layouts here in our design pursuits for the sake of consistency.

Interesting reading. Im looking toward fixed width 1000px which is a compromise for widescreen monitor and the standard 4:3 ratio monitor. I thinks it vertually impossible for website designers to hit every target in this respect.

I agree with you, that’s a good reason to use a web traffic stats package like Google Analytics that shows the screen resolution of your visitors. Even if they don’t run browser windows maximized, it stills gives you a guess at your target audience window size.

    Thanks for the comment.
