In early 2006, CU*Answers started offering the IRA Advisor from Experion, with links from online banking and, at one time, even from CU*BASE. This was at a time when we were investigating how “decision calculators” might help our credit unions, if we could develop a standard set of them for things like IRAs, mortgage loans, and other kinds of savings products with Experion.
It is a common practice in the CU industry to add these kinds of decision calculators to web sites; you may even have some. Today, most people talk about Personal Financial Management tools for the web; these are today’s versions of the decision calculators we were envisioning with Experion. The IRA Advisor was just a proof of concept. While modestly successful, the project never went to the next step. Since that time Experion has sold their firm to a third party and CU*Answers credit union peers have divested of the process.
Therefore, we will discontinue our links to the IRA Advisor from all of our channels as of the 10.4 release (December 12 for online, December 19-21 for everyone else). The “Get IRA Advice” link will no longer be available to members in It’s Me 247 online banking after that time.
What this means for you
Web Services will be removing this badge from our banner management application, common websites and our own hosted websites during the last week of November. If you maintain your own website and use this service through CU*Answers, or use this snippet, you will be required to remove it through your ordinary web update mechanisms.
UPDATE: 09/24/2010 This situation has been resolved and all systems are operating normally. Please report any problems.
We’ve been experiencing some intermittent issues with the SMTP (outgoing email) service on our shared hosting server. We have yet to determine if this is related to our Tuesday server maintenance. Thank you for your patience as we resolve this issue.
CU*Answers Web Services has a planned maintenance window on Tuesday morning (9/21/2010) from 5:00 am – 8:00 am EDT. Client websites and email services may experience intermittent downtime (10-15 minute intervals) during this window. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Remember back in 2001 when there was the “I Love You” email worm that sent emails to everyone in your inbox? If not, then trust us, it was bad and it got everyone and even took down whole mail servers.
Well, there is a new version of that email worm going around this week. The worm arrives via emails with the subject line “Here You Have” or something similar, and the messages contain a link to a site that will download a malicious file to the victim’s PC.
Please remember to use common sense with attachments. Only open attachments you are expecting. If you are unsure, don’t open it and contact the sender to see if it is legitimate. This 2 second phone call can save you a ton of time and money in cleaning up a PC.
